Superintendent spotlights student honors, grants and upcoming school events

The superintendent noted extracurricular achievements: the high-school boys volleyball team advanced to the NJSIAA first round; about 19 students recently received scholarship awards; and NJPAC and Union County recognitions are scheduled for district arts students. Perez listed teacher-of-the-year honorees presented at Kean University and described a monthly staff-spotlight series that recognizes nonteaching staff such as security officers, paraprofessionals and counselors.
Perez announced several near-term events: a track meet (date to be confirmed based on weather), a human-trafficking assembly for middle-school students next Thursday, a football-team car wash on May 30, a senior prom on May 28, and a student-led park cleanup on May 26. She also reported student-council activities, including a cereal drive for United Way and the student-council election results for the 2026–27 year.
The board thanked Perez for the report but did not take formal action on the items, and the meeting proceeded to public comment and committee reports.
