The Carroll County Board on May 7 approved securing a Cyber Liability insurance policy through CIRMA and the carrier Underwriters at Lloyd's, effective June 1, 2026, at a pro-rated premium of $4,557.83 and a $5,000 deductible.
County Administrator Bob Jachnicki explained the terms of the recommended policy and its coverage limit of $1,000,000. The measure was put forward by Chair Julie Bickelhaupt and moved by County Board Member Susan Jacobs; Melinda Appel seconded. Roll call votes recorded Bickelhaupt, Appel, Fitzpatrick, Jacobs and Soldat voting aye and the motion carried.
Board members said the policy will provide financial protection against cybersecurity incidents while noting the county will continue to monitor related risk and vendor terms. The policy becomes effective June 1 and the county’s insurance and finance staff will complete any necessary implementation steps.
