Des Moines County supervisors approve hires, appointments and workforce agreement

Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 25, 2001 approved a $1,630.56 payroll reimbursement claim, hired several county employees, confirmed an appointment to the county conservation board and voted to join an agreement with the Eastern Ohio Workforce Development Area.
The board’s chair presented the payroll reimbursement and called for a motion; a supervisor recorded as “Sarah” moved to approve and the board voted in favor. The board then accepted a letter of interest from Juli Zelensky to serve a second full term on the county conservation board beginning Jan. 26 and approved that appointment.
Supervisors also approved two hires for the correctional center: Casper Miller as a part-time cook at $16.80 per hour and Addison Clayton as a full-time correctional officer (the transcript records 77.11 hours in a pay period and a new annual rate of $50,072.77). The board approved hiring a clerk for the motor vehicle department (Alan/Alana Katz) and approved several unpaid time entries that were presented.
On a separate motion the board approved an agreement to combine workforce development districts under the Eastern Ohio Workforce Development Area. A board member said the consolidation would combine funding and should modestly increase the dollars available to local workforce programs while retaining local control of operations.
The board also voted to permit limited community use of a county parking lot after the county’s insurer confirmed coverage; supervisors asked that users respect spaces needed for courthouse and public service traffic during business hours.
The meeting included routine approvals, including minutes from the Nov. 18 meeting. No formal policy changes on wind turbines or setbacks were taken during the session. The board adjourned with holiday greetings.
