Garrett County commissioners approve appointments, procurement awards and road naming; authorize Crellin sidewalk funding application

Appointments and exemptions: The board approved the appointment of Burke Friend to the Garrett County Agricultural Advisory Board to complete the unexpired term of Staci Carr through December 2028. It also approved a Fiscal Year 2027 real property tax exemption for Backbone Housing Inc., granted under the Annotated Code of Maryland, Section 9-313.
Procurements: The county's Purchasing Division recommended and the board approved three awards. For Bid #26-0402 (G-58 Sang Run Road over Ginseng Run) a single bid from US Bridge for $87,992.00 was accepted. For Bid #26-0312 (elevator control upgrade) the board approved awarding the contract to Keystone Elevator Group for $240,000.00 over an alternate bid from Eastern Elevator ($253,897.38). For RFP #25-1029 (Advance Metering Infrastructure system) a five‑member selection committee evaluated three proposals and Purchasing recommended Fortline Inc. for $1,873,059.50; the board approved that recommendation.
Planning actions: Siera Wigfield, GIS Specialist with the Department of Planning & Land Management, asked the board to adopt Road Name Resolution RN26-1 to add the US 219/George C. Edwards Highway and Harvest Moon Drive and to delete Seldom Scene Hollow Lane because it no longer provides access to properties. The board adopted the resolution unanimously. Wigfield also provided an overview of a proposed Crellin Sidewalk Improvements and Transportation Alternative Funding Project process; the board authorized submitting an application for funding.
Procedural items and next steps: The board approved the May 4 agenda and the April 21, 2026 meeting minutes and issued proclamations for Mental Health Month, Children's Mental Health Week and EMS Week.
