Meriwether County approves standing seam metal roof for courthouse Phase I, citing durability and warranty improvements

The Meriwether County Board approved a revision to the Phase I courthouse renovation roof system at its Jan. 12 meeting, authorizing a standing seam metal roof as an alternative to the originally proposed TPO membrane.
Representatives from EMC Engineering (Chris Brazell) and River City Contracting (Travis Evans) told the Board the standing seam metal option aligns with historic preservation requirements, provides longer paint and weathertight warranties, and would reduce the overall cost of the roofing portion by an estimated $25,000. Mr. Evans described warranty coverage for the metal roof option as a 30-year paint finish warranty, a five-year workmanship warranty and a 20-year weathertight guarantee from the manufacturer.
Commissioner Adam Worsley moved to approve the change contingent on receiving the appropriate warranty documentation and confirmation that the county’s existing gutter system would be properly integrated with the metal roof. The Board amended the motion to authorize staff to select the final roof color (excluding bright colors) and approved the amended motion unanimously. Project representatives said work began the same day, described scaffolding and slab-edge protection steps, and said HVAC drawings were expected within weeks.
The Board asked staff to provide periodic updates on major milestones such as masonry mockups and scaffold progress so commissioners can observe major visible changes during construction.
