Meriwether County selects LMIG projects, adjusts Wrightsville funding and reallocates TSPLOST to pave E-911 lot

The Meriwether County Board approved its 2026 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) project list and several related paving and signage actions at the Jan. 12 meeting.
County Clerk Allyson Stephens told commissioners the County’s LMIG allocation is $942,445.22 with a required 30% local match of $282,613.36, producing a total project budget of $1,224,657.88. After discussing in-house versus contracted work and cost estimates, the Board voted to include King Road, Coleman Creek Circle and two miles of Alvaton Road in the LMIG application.
The Board also amended a previously approved LMIG resurfacing project for Wrightsville Road. Administrator John Gorton said a revised contractor estimate raised the project from a $100,000 not-to-exceed amount to $113,000 (including a 10% contingency); Commissioner Threadgill moved to approve the $113,000 amount with the additional $13,000 funded from leftover Alvaton/Judson Bullock project funds. The motion passed, with Vice Chairman Snelson recorded as abstaining.
Separately, staff requested and the Board approved reallocation of $66,656.10 remaining from TSPLOST widening projects toward paving improvements at the E-911 parking lot, including ADA work; staff estimated the parking lot work would cost roughly $26,000, leaving surplus funds to return to TSPLOST for future paving.
The Board also approved installation of 24/7 surveillance signage at Red Oak Creek Covered Bridge and Lake Meriwether after staff reported that camera equipment had been received. Signs were approved at approximately $35.99 each with up to four signs to be installed.
Directives included asking Public Works to coordinate scope and funding details and for staff to document expenditures to satisfy LMIG reporting requirements. The Board recorded all votes on the public record.
