Meriwether County Board names Collins chair, Snelson vice chair and confirms several staff and board appointments

The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners reorganized its leadership for 2026 at its Jan. 12 meeting, appointing Commissioner Emmett Collins as chair and Commissioner Jennifer Snelson as vice chair. Commissioner Gene King moved to appoint Collins; Commissioner Bryan Threadgill seconded. The motion passed with King, Snelson, Worsley and Threadgill voting in favor and Collins abstaining.
The Board confirmed John Gorton as County Administrator and Allyson Stephens as County Clerk by unanimous votes. Vice Chairman Jennifer Snelson moved to appoint Hailee Palmer as Deputy Clerk after Stephens recommended Palmer’s appointment and praised her completion of the Clerk Mandate at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and her on-the-job performance; the motion passed unanimously.
The Board also approved retention of the law firm Glover & Davis to serve as County Attorney and filled several advisory positions. Chairman Collins moved to appoint Vice Chairman Snelson as ACCG Legislative Coordinator (one-year term); the Board approved the appointment. The board reappointed Dora Terry to the Lake Meriwether Advisory Board (District 2) and Robin Wilkinson to the Lake Meriwether Advisory Board (District 4). Chairman Collins was appointed as the Board’s Lake Meriwether Advisory Board commissioner for a one-year term, and Vivian Smith was reappointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a three-year term.
Votes were recorded on the public record for each motion, and all appointments were adopted by majority vote or unanimous consent as noted in the minutes. The new leadership will oversee county business and ongoing projects during 2026.
