The Lewis and Clark County Board of Commissioners voted April 7 to approve a zoning variance permitting the existing sign at 1260 Otter Road to remain larger than the standard sign-area limit for the R-3 district within Special Zoning District 5‑A. Rachel Ward, Planner II, presented the request and said the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval based on findings of fact and conclusions read into the record.
The variance affects signage at the Los (LOS) Church property at 1260 Otter Road. Ward told the board the request was to allow the sign to remain “as it exists,” and staff recommended approval. Two members of the public spoke in support; Aaron Kensinger of Stahly Construction was available to answer questions and Emilee Pike identified herself as a church member who supported the request.
Commissioner Andy Hunthausen moved to adopt the findings of fact and conclusions as meeting the necessary criteria; Commissioner Candace Payne seconded. The board adopted findings for the stated criteria in separate motions and then approved a global motion to grant the variance on a 3-0 vote.
