The Weld County Board of County Commissioners approved a $985,000 change order to an existing on‑call construction contract with TLM Constructors to rebuild an unsafe BNSF railroad crossing near Hudson on County Road 51.
Michael Bedell of Public Works described the proposed change order as an addition to the existing contract, noting TLM had been selected earlier through a competitive bid process. Bedell said the work responds to a crossing with a history of incidents and will be carried out by a combination of TLM crews, county crews and BNSF crews. He estimated work would start on June 1 and take about two months to complete, and warned that traffic would be detoured during construction.
Bedell and Don Dunker said TLM had previously integrated work well with county crews on other projects and had delivered on time and under budget in past collaborations. Commissioner Peppler moved to approve the change order and Commissioner Buck seconded; the motion carried on voice vote.
The board did not discuss funding sources in detail during the presentation; Bedell indicated the change order represents an additional allocation on the existing contract. Staff said the road closure and detour plan would be brought to the board soon and the project would appear on an upcoming agenda for traffic detour details.
