Board approves $156,560 Duval playground bid; community partner to reimburse about $30,000

During the board's consent agenda on May 19, Superintendent Barnett drew attention to item K, a bid for a new playground at the Duval project with a contract amount of $156,560. Barnett said Southwestern Community Action will reimburse about $30,000 toward equipment and the rubberized surface portion of the project.
Barnett described the planned installation: timber edging and bedding of gravel, a rubberized safety surface (not rubber mulch), equipment set in concrete and welded to base plates, and a later phase that will provide a secondary play area with a concrete pad for basketball hoops and other activities.
Board member Mosteller moved to approve the consent items including the playground bid; the motion was seconded by McCollum and carried 5–0.
The superintendent said visuals and a schematic were provided to the board and indicated some site work is already in place; the district will coordinate reimbursements and the equipment purchase as described in the packet.
