Mason County commissioners approve routine consent items, hires and equipment purchases

Mason County Commissioners Court met Feb. 9, 2026, and approved a series of routine consent items and personnel actions, including acceptance of the county audit and purchases for county operations.
The court accepted the 2024 audit presented by Keith Neffendorf of Neffendorf and Blocker, P.C. Commissioner Dave Underwood moved to accept the audit and Commissioner Fred Estes seconded; the motion carried as recorded in the minutes.
Commissioner Reggie Loeffler moved and Commissioner Fred Estes seconded a motion to accept donations totaling $579.68 for county programs: $100 to the Nutrition Program, $300 to EMS and $179.68 to the library. The motion carried.
During an open-bid process for a surplus 1996 Mack dump truck, bids were opened at 9:17 a.m. Garrett Allen submitted $2,000 and Jim Roy Atchison submitted $4,100. The court accepted Atchison’s $4,100 bid; Commissioner Reggie Loeffler moved and Commissioner Buddy Schuessler seconded the motion, which the minutes record as carried.
The court approved several personnel hires: Raul Sanchez as a part-time Road and Bridge worker at $25.10 per hour (start date Feb. 18, 2026), Austin Simonton as a full-time Road and Bridge mechanic at $24.10 per hour (start date Feb. 10, 2026) and Tiani Finn as a part-time 4H assistant at $20.70 per hour (start date Feb. 23, 2026). All hiring motions were moved by Commissioner Reggie Loeffler and seconded by Commissioner Dave Underwood and are recorded as carried.
For county operations, the court approved purchasing new radios for law-enforcement vehicles from Motorola Solutions (quote 3477954) for $15,658.50 plus $1,156.47 for programming and installation to be paid from SB22 funds; Commissioner Dave Underwood moved and Commissioner Fred Estes seconded the motion. The court also approved contracting with Revize for website design and development (proposal 251216 option #2) at $3,800 for the first year and $1,400 annually for the following three years.
The court approved an interlocal agreement with Kimble County for mutual aid assistance in a disaster, with agreed changes to lower insurance limits, and approved submission of a letter of interest to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Aviation Division for airport improvement projects identified in the county’s airport layout plan for Phase 1 (2025–2029). The court also approved the TAC Risk Management Pool 2026–2027 Liability Renewal Questionnaire and renewed the Affordable Care Act Reporting and Tracking Service (ARTS) with TAC-HEBP.
The court entered executive session under Texas Government Code §551.074 for personnel matters from 11:25 a.m. to 1:27 p.m. and later under §551.071 for attorney consultations from 1:42 p.m. to 2:37 p.m. The court received a letter of resignation from the Mason County treasurer but recorded no motion to accept the resignation and took no action to advertise for appointment to the unexpired term.
The meeting concluded with routine reports; Commissioner Fred Estes submitted a certificate of continuing education hours for 2025. A motion to adjourn at 2:44 p.m. was carried.
