Mason County commissioners adopt 90-day burn ban, canvass primary results and authorize hiring advertisement

MASON, Texas — The Mason County Commissioners Court on March 12 adopted a 90-day countywide burn ban, canvassed the results of the March 3 primary election and approved several routine administrative actions, the minutes show.
The court voted to instate a burn ban effective March 14, 2026, at 7 a.m. The order includes an explicit exemption for controlled burns "necessary for the creation or maintenance of actively farmed hay fields," provided those burns occur within defensible space, are attended by a person for the duration, and have fire suppression tools on hand. The motion to adopt the ban was moved by Commissioner Dave Underwood and seconded by Commissioner Reggie Loeffler; the minutes record the motion as carried and note the action is recorded in Commissioner’s Court Minutes, Vol. 24, pages 129–130.
The court also formally canvassed the March 3, 2026 primary election "as presented." On personnel and administration, the court approved placing an advertisement for a full-time administrative assistant to the County Judge in the Mason County Newspaper on March 18 and March 25, 2026. The advertisement schedule sets applications due Monday, March 30, 2026, with interviews to be held March 31–April 3 and an acknowledgment to the Commissioners Court of a hire planned for Monday, April 13, 2026; the start date was listed as pending. The minutes record a related availability/selection acknowledgment motion carried later in the item with Commissioners Fred Estes and Dave Underwood appearing as the mover and seconder on that entry.
