Mason County commissioners ratify mutual aid pact for school emergencies, approve SB22-funded pickups and routine personnel moves

The Mason County Commissioners Court on Jan. 12, 2026 ratified a Mutual Aid Agreement for Complex Emergency Response and Investigation Planning with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Mason County Sheriff's Department and local first responders aimed at coordinating responses to attack incidents at primary and secondary school facilities in Mason County.
The court also ratified the purchase of two Ford F150 Responder pickups for the sheriff's office using SB22 grant funds, for amounts of $63,859.50 and $64,354.50. The court accepted a $600 donation to the Senior Nutrition Program and a $540 donation to Emergency Medical Services and acknowledged personnel reclassifications, including the reclassification of Tax Assessor-Collector employee Rebecca Burns from part-time to full-time at $21.00 per hour with benefits effective Jan. 1, 2026, and the reclassification of Albert Herrington from part-time assistant Emergency Management Coordinator to full-time Emergency Management Coordinator with exempt salary status and benefits (no overtime) effective Jan. 1, 2026.
Other routine actions approved by the court included authorization to advertise for a part-time 4‑H assistant, a Road & Bridge mechanic, and a part-time Road & Bridge worker (advertisements to run in the Mason County newspaper and online beginning Jan. 14, 2026 with application deadlines of Jan. 23, 2026 and an intent to hire Feb. 9, 2026); authorization to advertise bids for a 1996 Mack dump truck (bids due Feb. 6, 2026; bid opening Feb. 9, 2026); enrollment in the Texas Association of Counties cybersecurity training for budget year 2026 at $5.00 per user; approval of the Congregate Program Policy for the Senior Nutrition Program for 2026; and adoption of the IRS-recommended mileage reimbursement rate of 72.5 cents per mile for 2026.
The court also approved an Order naming retired constitutional judge Jerry Bearden as a visiting judge for Mason County, effective Jan. 12, 2026 through Aug. 31, 2026; that action is recorded in Commissioners Court Minutes Vol. 23, pages 849-850. The meeting adjourned at 9:52 a.m.
