Mason County commissioners approve hires, appointments and financial reports in routine Oct. 27 meeting

Mason County commissioners on Oct. 27 approved multiple routine administrative actions that affect county staffing, election administration and fiscal reporting.
The court voted to appoint Ana Dominguez, Cassey Slocum Feagins, Jana Brown and Sam Pfiester to the Mason County Historical Commission. Commissioners also approved hiring three part-time EMS paramedics — Evan Deason, Rikki Gott and Yvette Escobedo — at $24.65 per hour with retirement benefits, effective Oct. 27, 2025. The court approved hiring Candace Andrews as part-time Nutrition Program assistant at $19.80 per hour with retirement benefits, also to start Oct. 27, 2025.
Financial actions included approval of the Treasurer’s Affidavit and Treasurer’s Report and the Quarterly Investment Report for the period ending Sept. 30, 2025, as presented by the Treasurer’s Office. The court authorized applying for the FY2026 Texas Indigent Defense Commission formula grant and adopted a related resolution, and it approved updated HCTC Business Service Agreements.
The court approved procurement items including authorizing advertising for sealed bids for Nutrition Program food providers for calendar year 2026 and accepting the Snider quote to purchase a new computer for the County Judge’s administrative assistant for $1,464.41 plus labor and travel if needed.
On election administration, the court adopted Mason County’s jury selection plan and accepted changes to several Republican and Democrat election judges and alternates for two-year terms, as listed in the minutes. The court also ratified an amended order and notice for a Constitutional Amendments special election to reflect two twelve-hour days.
The minutes record the court cast votes for directors to serve the MCAD for 2026–27, listing recorded tallies for Randy Kruse (659), Jim Bob Smith (659) and Dave Underwood (660). The minutes state "Three Commissioner votes all in favor. Plus, Judge Hardin." The minutes also record that Commissioner Dave Underwood abstained from the vote.
Commissioners used the reports period to note continuing site inspections for FEMA road projects, a county invitation for bid packets covering Mason and surrounding counties (Llano, Brady, Junction and Fredericksburg), and a Category A debris-removal announcement that asks property owners to sign Right of Entry forms for submission to Tetratech by Dec. 5, 2025.
