Mason County Commissioners Court adopted the county's fiscal year 2026 budget and set the 2025 property tax rate at $.642700 during its Aug. 25 meeting, the court recorded.
County Judge Sheree Hardin opened the regular meeting and the court approved changes to the proposed budget under Local Government Code 111.008(b) before moving to adoption under LGC 111.008(a). The adoption passed on a recorded roll call with five ayes, zero nays.
The court also ratified the property tax increase reflected in the budget per LGC 111.008(c) and set the rate at $.642700, which the minutes state is a 13.67% increase. The rate is split into a maintenance and operations component of $.599600 and an interest and sinking component of $.04310; all components were approved with the adoption of the rate. The motion to set the tax rate carried on a unanimous vote.
The court's motions were moved and seconded as recorded in the clerk's minutes; the formal votes and the adopted budget are recorded in the Commissioner's Court Minutes Vol. 23, pages 651-657.
The court did not record any amendments to the budget adoption at the meeting. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2025, when the court will consider items, including a draft resolution related to a transmission line project.
