Matagorda County certifies grant to help deliver meals to homebound residents, accepts Oxea donation

The certification, moved by Commissioner Charles "Bubba" Frick and seconded by Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum, passed on a 5–0 vote. The resolution affirms the county's prior grant to the Economic Action Committee of the Gulf Coast, the county said in the meeting record.
Why it matters: The resolution lets the local provider pursue a state grant that supports nutrition and meal-delivery services for residents who are homebound because of age or disability. The commissioners' action creates a formal county-level certification often required by the Texas Department of Agriculture for these awards.
At the same meeting, commissioners accepted a $2,000 contribution from Oxea Corporation to offset expenses for the Matagorda County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event scheduled for Oct. 18, 2025. The acceptance was moved by Commissioner Edward "Bubba" Cook and seconded by Commissioner Troy Shimek; the vote was 5–0.
Other financial housekeeping approved on the consent docket included routine approvals of department invoices and the Matagorda County Treasurer's monthly investment report for August 2025. These items were approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The court recorded no substantive public-comment motions related to the grant or the donation during the meeting. The commissioners adjourned later in the day after completing the agenda.
Next steps: The Economic Action Committee of the Gulf Coast may proceed with its application to the Texas Department of Agriculture; the hazardous-waste event remains scheduled for Oct. 18, 2025, with Oxea listed as a financial contributor.
