Matagorda County commissioners approve reappointments, contracts, vehicle purchase and a sheriff grant

At their Jan. 12 meeting, the Matagorda County Commissioners' Court approved multiple reappointments to redevelopment and CPS boards, authorized a $55,525 pickup purchase for Precinct 1, accepted a $9,000 sheriff’s grant for thermal binoculars, and approved several contracts and permits; all motions passed 5-0.
County Judge Bobby Seiferman presided over the Matagorda County Commissioners' Court on Jan. 12, 2026, where the court voted unanimously on a package of routine appointments, contracts and purchases that will affect county operations and local services.
The court reappointed Mike Estlinbaum to Bay City TIRZ No. 4 for a term effective Feb. 1, 2026–Feb. 1, 2028 and reappointed Commissioner Edward "Bubba" Cook and Estlinbaum to Bay City TIRZ No. 3 for the same term. The body also reappointed Tena Frick and Lee Ann Solberg and appointed Makenna Krenek to the Wharton-Matagorda Child Protective Services board for 01/01/2026–12/31/2028. Each of those motions passed on voice votes, recorded as 5 ayes, 0 nays.
The court approved a Texas Association of Counties website agreement to upgrade the county website and accepted a Letter of No Obligation, a Right-of-Way application and a permit for utility work in Palacios that will cross 12th Street, proceed north to cross Collins Drive, continue west along the north side of Collins Drive and terminate at 805 Shark Drive. It also accepted Crescent Street (off CR 338 Barber Road) into the Matagorda County Precinct 3 road system.
On equipment and asset matters, the court authorized Precinct 1 to purchase a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD Crew Cab from Caldwell Country Chevrolet (BuyBoard Contract #724-23) for $55,525.00. The Sheriff’s Office was authorized to accept a non-matching $9,000 grant from LyondellBasell to acquire thermal binoculars for emergency response. The court also declared three sheriff vehicles as salvage (2017 Dodge Ram VIN 1C6RR7XT1HS584468; 2020 Dodge Ram VIN 1C6RR7XT1LS148714; and 2020 Dodge Ram VIN 1C6RR7XT5HS581993), authorized sale at auction with proceeds to be deposited to fund 010-55700-560, and directed that one listed vehicle be conveyed to Precinct 4.
The court approved Change Order #1 for the Justice of the Peace No. 2 Office Building project with Boettcher Hlavinka Co. and authorized the County Judge to sign the change order. It also approved an FY 2026–2027 contract between Matagorda County and the Palacios Area Historical Association and authorized the County Judge to sign that agreement.
Financial oversight items approved included departmental invoices from the District Clerk, County Attorney, Juvenile Probation and the Sheriff’s Office; acceptance of the Matagorda County Treasurer’s December 2025 monthly investment report; and payment of bills. The court also authorized travel expenses for Amanda Campos and Cris Cruz to attend the 2026 National Radiological Emergency Preparedness Conference in Overland Park, Kansas.
All of the motions recorded in open session were unanimous, with votes recorded as 5 ayes and 0 nays. Several items were listed by agenda number and passed without separate recorded debate.
