Matagorda County accepts donations for sheriff's office and approves AT&T contract

The Matagorda County Commissioners on Dec. 8 voted unanimously to authorize the sheriff's office to accept three equipment donations: four ObservIR thermal and digital binoculars from Mr. Ben Gibson; eight used tasers with accessories from the Needville Police Department; and eight used 4RE vehicle cameras and parts from the Wharton Police Department.

Motions and votes were recorded as follows: the binocular donation was authorized on a motion by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Frick (vote 5-0); the taser donation was authorized on a motion by Commissioner Shimek, seconded by Commissioner Estlinbaum (vote 5-0); the vehicle camera donation was authorized on a motion by Commissioner Shimek, seconded by Commissioner Cook (vote 5-0).

In the same meeting the court approved a contract between Matagorda County and AT&T for the Sheriff's Office (motion by Commissioner Frick, seconded by Commissioner Cook; vote 5-0). The minutes do not provide contract value, warranty or maintenance terms for the AT&T agreement, nor do they specify whether acceptance of the used equipment requires additional insurance or inventory steps.
