Matagorda County commissioners approve $701,328 pre-payment for drainage project, ratify property, right-of-way and grant actions

The court approved travel and training requests, including travel for Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum to the VG Young Commissioners Court Leadership Academy (May 9–15, 2026) and travel expenses for Danielle Nunez and Brenda Clay to attend the American Probation and Parole Association's 51st Annual Training Institute in Chicago. The court approved attendance and expenses for Sheriff Rick DeLeon to attend the National Emergency Preparedness Conference 2026 in Overland Park, Kansas.
For public-safety technology, the court approved a resolution authorizing submission of a grant application to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority for a 2027 taskforce grant to purchase automated license-plate reader ("flock") cameras; the resolution requires a 20% cash match. Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum moved approval; Commissioner Edward "Bubba" Cook seconded and the motion carried 5–0.
