McCulloch County tables Veterans Service Officer decision; community seeks to restore courthouse gazebo

The McCulloch County Commissioners Court tabled action on how to fill a part-time Veterans Service Officer post and set the matter for a special meeting on Oct. 14, 2025.
Tony Bucholz spoke on behalf of Nancy A. Munetake, who was presented as a candidate for the veterans-service role; Bucholz said Ms. Munetake could assist veterans and that grant funding up to $50,000 might be available without the county having to prepare the grant application. The court voted to table the hiring decision until the special meeting.
Separately, community members Jeff Bedwell, Rhett Behrens and Daniele Williams — representing a 501(c)(3) — proposed rebuilding and making safe the old courthouse gazebo and organizing an October fundraiser. They also proposed a bench project to add seating around the courthouse square. The court approved adding the veterans-service item to the Oct. 14 agenda but took no formal action on the gazebo proposal during the session.
