Court authorizes regional interoperable radio amendment and approves RF tracking inventory purchase

The Midland County Commissioners Court on Oct. 21 authorized two procurement items related to communications and inventory control. First, the court agreed to allow the county judge to sign an amendment to a multi‑jurisdiction interoperable radio agreement (Midland County, City of Midland, Ector County and City of Odessa) once the other entities have executed the agreement; the amendment would split costs for a Sirius module system.
Speaker 14 told the court the county has budgeted funds for the program and that the amended agreement is still moving through the partner agencies; court approval authorizes the judge to sign when final copies are available. The county expects to receive the final agreement copies by November.
Second, the court approved the purchase of an RF tracking inventory system for IT and purchasing. Speaker 14 said the county has an existing inventory system but the new RF tracking system will consolidate records, add barcode capabilities and improve task workflows; the item was in the budget and required court approval because it exceeded $10,000.
Both items passed on recorded motions. County staff will proceed with final signatures on the radio amendment once partner signatures are obtained and will place the RF tracking system into procurement per county purchasing rules.
