Commissioners approve change orders and generator installation for Midland County jail project

Midland County Commissioners on Dec. 16 approved multiple change orders and contract amendments tied to infrastructure projects, including work on the county jail.
For the Midland County Jail project, staff asked the court to accept a change order with Edgardo (Eduardo) Madrid and Associates to cover additional dirt work and installation of a generator with an automatic transfer switch at the jail lift station. Staff said the generator will keep the lift station operating during power outages to allow wastewater release; the court approved the change order by voice vote.
Transport and road projects previously coordinated with TxDOT also drew approvals. The court authorized an amendment to a Dunaway contract for additional coordination on the East County Road 120 turn lane at FM 715 and approved a change order with Reese Albert on an associated turn-lane project. The court also approved a separate change order for reconstruction of South County Road 1110, noting additional concrete and curb-and-gutter work required because of TxDOT’s traffic-signal installation.
What happens next: Contractors will proceed with the approved change orders and the county will accept the generator and sewer work into the jail project schedule. Road contractors will complete coordination with TxDOT and proceed under the amended contracts.
