County Judge (presiding) framed the proposal as a continuation of action the court began seven years ago and said the increase would provide property-tax relief to older residents and those on fixed incomes. "I think I would like to see us give them some relief on their property taxes from the county," the judge said during discussion.
Commissioners discussed the proposal and the judge noted the county would invite other local taxing entities to consider similar relief. Commissioner (speaker 8) proposed alternative age thresholds in discussion but the court confirmed the motion addressing 65-or-older and disabled residents and approved it by voice vote.
The court recorded the measure for implementation in the 2026 tax year and staff will coordinate necessary notifications with the Midland Central Appraisal District and county tax administration.
