The Trussville City Council on April 28 approved a resolution declaring surplus certain industrial-park property and authorizing an option-and-lease agreement with The Towers LLC to install a Verizon Wireless 5G cell site on roughly 6,400 square feet.
Councilor Kimberly Farr introduced the resolution and Councilor Brian Jackson seconded. The motion passed 3–1, with Councilor Jim Miller recording the dissent. Former councilor Jef Freeman spoke during audience comments expressing opposition to new cell towers. Mayor Ben Short responded that Verizon or any successor would have obligations under the negotiated lease and that the installation would comply with city ordinances.
The resolution directs the city to make the property available under an option-and-lease structure; specific lease terms, ongoing monitoring conditions, or construction timetables were not recorded in the meeting minutes. The council did not amend the motion on the floor and did not record additional conditions beyond the authorization in Resolution No. 2026-33.
Next steps identified in the minutes include implementation tasks to be handled by the city clerk and planning department; no dates for construction or further public hearings were included in the recorded action.
Action: Resolution No. 2026-33 approved 3–1 on April 28, 2026.
