The Arapahoe County Board of County Commissioners on May 12 adopted proclamations recognizing World Facilities Management Day (May 13, 2026) and National Public Works Week (May 17–23, 2026).
Commissioner Warren Gully moved to adopt both proclamations and Commissioner Fields seconded; the motions carried by voice vote. Commissioner Gully read language recognizing the Facilities and Fleet Management Team and the contributions of custodial and maintenance staff. The chair read a proclamation honoring the Public Works and Development Department, noting the department’s roles in infrastructure, permitting and emergency response and that it is pursuing its third American Public Works Association (APWA) accreditation.
Acting department directors addressed the board. An acting public works director noted that the department had achieved a third reaccreditation from APWA and thanked staff for their efforts; an acting facilities director thanked the board for recognition and said the teams keep county buildings functioning. Commissioners used their comments to acknowledge behind‑the‑scenes work and emphasized long‑term planning and stewardship of public infrastructure.
The board paused for a small photo opportunity with facilities and public works staff before resuming the agenda.
