Highland Lakes plans community events, authorizes equipment sales and forms beautification committee

The Town Council of Highland Lakes on April 7 confirmed a series of community and operational items: a Meet & Greet event for local candidates, fee waivers for July 4 food vendors, disposal plans for town equipment and the creation of a resident beautification committee.
Mayor Gail Bailey reminded attendees the Meet & Greet will be Sunday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. Councilmembers voted to waive food-truck fees for the July 4 celebration; staff were instructed to inform vendors that only Coca‑Cola products may be sold at the event. The fee waiver passed on a unanimous roll call.
Council approved Resolution HL-R-2026-05 to surplus a riding lawn mower through sealed bids and discussed (but did not decide) disposal options for the town Gator. Town staff will handle the sealed-bid process for the mower sale.
Resident Connie Vice presented a proposal for beautification awards and asked to form a community committee to encourage resident involvement. Anne Rilling moved to permit Vice to form the committee; Ramzi Malek seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council also received a Building & Grounds update from Chairman Carl Randall noting the large park bridge is finished, the small bridge was removed for safety reasons and the gazebo needs roof repairs; Randall and Mayor Bailey thanked residents who assisted with recent work days. The Building Inspector's report, read by Mayor Bailey, recorded 20 inspections in March, four new homes under construction, three remodels and one additional home in review.
The meeting concluded with a note that two seats on the Zoning Board of Adjustments—Jennifer Alderson and LouAnn Kon—need to be filled. With no further business, the council adjourned at 7:36 p.m.
