The Helena City Council on April 27 approved Teen Council bylaws and heard several community updates including TAG grant awards, event attendance figures and infrastructure improvements.
Councilmember Jeff McDaniels moved to approve the Teen Council bylaws; Andy Healy seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Alice Lobell and Laura Joseph presented cords to Teen Council seniors.
The TAG Board, represented by Councilmember Andy Healy, presented spring grants to area schools (HES, HIS, HMS, HHS and MHS). Mayor Billy Rosener said Old Town Live drew between 1,500 and 2,500 attendees and that beverage sales exceeded $7,000 at the event. The mayor also reported a $1,000 grant to the library from IBEW and that a downtown parking lot project is complete with ADA spaces installed and sidewalks forthcoming.
Mayor Rosener said Captain Ed Lindsey won "Stache for Cash" at the FDIC annual conference and characterized the prize as including a $500,000 interest‑free loan for public safety; he said the city will review the terms to determine any benefit.
Why it matters: The approved bylaws formalize Teen Council procedures; the grants and event updates highlight local civic engagement and volunteer participation. The city will follow up on grant- and event-related budgeting and maintenance details as noted during the meeting.
Next steps: Staff will include Teen Council bylaws and grant paperwork in the administrative record; the city will review any terms associated with the reported FDIC award before any action is taken.
