Commission approves 642-acre Bridger Livestock conservation easement with county contribution

The Gallatin County Commission voted Tuesday to approve Level 2 of the Bridger Livestock conservation easement, enabling the county to sign purchase, sale and assignment agreements and move toward a mid-June closing.
Open lands coordinator Sean O'Callaghan introduced the project as a 642-acre cattle operation near Sedan, saying the county had previously pledged $642,600 — roughly 30% of a $2,142,000 estimated conservation value — toward the purchase. He called the landowner’s donated share essential to advancing the deal.
A representative from the conservation partner (presenter) described two building envelopes on the property, one retaining the existing farmstead and allowing one residence on the northern envelope. The presenter said the property is primarily agricultural and important wildlife habitat, noting scenic visibility from Bridger Ridge trails.
Sean O'Callaghan clarified a mistaken earlier reference and said the property is in Gallatin County and therefore eligible for county open-lands funding: "For anyone listening... the property is in Gallatin County. We're using tax dollars from the Gallatin County open lands program for this project," he said.
Commissioners thanked the landowners and the conservation partner and approved the sale and assignment agreements, voting 2–0 to authorize the chair to sign.
