Commission approves Turner Commons alternate street cross-sections, staff says narrower sections support walkability

The Fayette Urban County Government Planning Commission unanimously approved a waiver to allow alternate internal street cross-sections for Turner Commons (PLN WAV 26-00013), concluding the proposed narrower sections support the project’s walkability goals and would not adversely affect public health and safety.
Staff presented the request and said the proposed cross-sections (varying widths) do not substantially deviate from the standard exhibit 6-3 drawing and provide adequate vehicle and pedestrian space for a mixed-use, largely non-industrial environment. Staff recommended approval, citing previous approvals that showed similar cross-sections and the infill constraints of the long, narrow parcel.
Applicant counsel Nathan Billings said much of the infrastructure is already constructed and that the cross-sections had appeared on earlier plans; he told the commission the waiver is largely a final-plat technical step and that the development is active. Staff and the applicant agreed the waiver will facilitate final platting and not materially reduce safety.
Commissioner Mickler moved to approve the waiver for the reasons provided by staff; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The planning commission’s approval allows the developer to proceed with final plat and recording for affected lots, subject to any remaining technical requirements and standard departmental sign-offs.
