The Hamblen County Commission on May 21 approved a set of routine and substantive items: a library appointment, the consent calendar, multiple grant- and program-related resolutions, and several budget amendments.
The commission appointed Mike Richardson to the Morristown Hamblen Library following motion and second and a recorded vote announced by the clerk. Commissioners then approved additions to and the full consent calendar, including an added item to provide basic life insurance funding noted for the Hamblen County Board of Education.
On the finance agenda, the commission approved Resolution 26-04, adopting an economic-impact plan for the Merchants Crossing development. The body also approved an agreement with the Morristown Humane Society; commissioners discussed the program's budgeted $300,000 total, which the mayor and staff described as a split between city and county funding. Several grant applications and awards were approved, including a Homeland Security grant application and acceptance of a TDEC solid-waste grant. The commission also approved a series of budget amendments, notably an increase of $2,562,500.21 for the Hamblen County Department of Education and smaller appropriations for county clerk and drug court functions.
