Nemaha County commissioners approve drug court interlocal agreement, accept fuel bid and adopt hazard mitigation plan

The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners on May 20 voted to sign a regional interlocal agreement for the SE Nebraska Adult Drug Court and approved Nemaha County’s FY2026–2027 contribution of $9,153.85.
Melanie Stormer, chief probation officer, and Chris Reece, Problem Solving Court coordinator, presented the agreement covering Otoe, Richardson, Nemaha, Johnson and Pawnee counties. Commissioner Michael J. Weiss moved to sign the agreement and approve the budget request; Commissioner Bryan W. Mellage seconded. The board recorded roll-call votes of Mellage, aye; Weiss, aye; Commissioner Mike Hall was absent.
The board also accepted a June fuel bid from Sapp Brothers for #2 clear diesel at $4.569 per gallon and regular with ethanol at $4.07 per gallon. Commissioner Bryan W. Mellage moved to accept the bid; Commissioner Michael J. Weiss seconded and the motion passed on a roll call vote.
Commissioners adopted Resolution 2026-19, which formally adopts the Nemaha Natural Resources District Hazard Mitigation Plan 2026 prepared by Jeo Consulting Group. The adoption clears a statutory step local governments commonly take to align county hazard planning with regional mitigation efforts.
The board accepted the resignation of Suki K. Fischer from the county Building & Grounds position effective May 28, 2026. Commissioners also adopted Resolution 2026-20, an emergency declaration for the May 18, 2026 high winds and heavy rain in Nemaha County; the resolution was adopted by roll call.
The board changed the date of its first June session to Tuesday, June 2, 2026, because several commissioners will attend the NACO conference in Kearney. The meeting adjourned at 10:51 a.m.
