Shiawassee County board clears routine business: purchases, appointments, grant and retirement incentive

The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 13 moved through routine business and approved several administrative actions and appointments.
On motions recorded in the meeting minutes the board: approved the agenda and July 16 meeting minutes; approved a batch of Invoice Edit Reports and payroll batches authorizing warrants for $5,532,910.55 (amending the motion to include an Invoice Edit Report dated Aug. 8, 2025); approved purchase of a new scanner and computer for the county clerk’s office for an amount not to exceed $8,009.22; approved a Jones Outdoor bid not to exceed $16,350 for a driveway serving a new 911 tower; approved the chairman's selection of Maxwell Ruegsegger to Shiawassee Health and Wellness; accepted a $10,000 grant agreement with the Cook Foundation for vaccination programming and authorized the board chair to sign; and approved a conditional retirement incentive of $10,000 for two retirement-eligible Health Department employees, with acceptance required by Sept. 30, 2025.
Committee minutes approved included the Aug. 11 Economic & Physical Development Committee minutes, the Aug. 11 Finance & Administration Development Committee minutes, and the Aug. 12 Public Safety and Courts and Health and Human Services Committee minutes. Most motions were recorded as passed unanimously (6 yeas, 0 nays) in roll call votes noted in the minutes.
Chairman Gregory Brodeur and County Administrator Dr. Brian Boggs provided brief reports: Brodeur reported on a Young’s Drain meeting and ongoing county development; Dr. Boggs noted Pleasant View bond closings, that 2026 budget planning will begin in late September and acknowledged an intern’s final day. Justin Horvath (SEPD) announced a community pig roast at McCurdy Park on Oct. 1 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 5:34 p.m.
