Carpentersville honors code officer Sherry Miller and swears in three firefighters

At the Village of Carpentersville board meeting on Jan. 6, 2026, President Skillman recognized Sherry Miller, a code compliance officer in community development, as the Illinois Association of Code Enforcement (IACE) Officer of the Year for 2025 and the board swore in three new full‑time firefighters.
President Skillman introduced Miller and summarized her qualifications: more than six years with the village, prior experience as a union carpenter and contractor, ICC property‑maintenance and residential‑mechanical inspector certifications, and additional training in disaster responsiveness from FEMA and the International Code Council. Skillman said Miller had been nominated by village colleagues and selected by the IACE board from 178 nominees.
The board and attendees applauded Miller; several trustees thanked her for her service.
The meeting also included a swearing‑in ceremony for three firefighters. A deputy chief thanked the board for authorizing the hires and described the hires’ preparation and readiness to serve. The three individuals took the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and Illinois and to abide by village ordinances and department directives. The names given during the ceremony were Kyle Kublenck, Kyle Lansgar and Wayne Anderson; family members were invited forward and congratulated.
Trustees marked the recognitions and the sworn hires with formal congratulations; no formal vote was required for the recognitions and the swearing constituted an official ceremonial step recorded in the meeting.
