The Village Board approved staff’s recommendation to award the monument-signage project to the lowest responsive bidder and include a 10% contingency, bringing the not-to-exceed award to $709,365.
Community development staff presented the design concepts and explained the scope — stonework, electrical, landscaping, lighting and irrigation — for two signs at I‑90/Bussey Road and the Kensington Business Center at Business Center Drive and Rand Road. Staff said the low bid was about $644,877 and, after adding a 10% contingency to account for quantity variances, the award would be $709,365.
Staff noted the selected contractor has prior experience in the village and surrounding communities and that rebidding was not expected to produce lower bids. Trustees discussed visibility, the location near a heavy-truck property at the Bussey Road sign site, and options to explore additional sign placements in future phases. The board voted by roll call to accept the staff recommendation.
