Norcross Public Arts Commission approves utility-box repairs, meeting time change and student art award

The Norcross Public Arts Commission on April 28 approved several routine and project-specific actions, including authorization of up to $4,000 for repairs to public-art utility boxes and a permanent shift of regular meeting start time to 6:00 p.m.
Chair Elizabeth Simpson opened the meeting at 6:31 p.m. The commission unanimously approved the minutes from the Feb. 24 and March 24 meetings (the March minutes were amended to correct the adjournment time). Vice Chair Jacques Murphy moved to approve the March minutes as amended; Nicole Morgan moved to approve the February minutes.
Treasurer and Board Member Michael MacManus presented updated financial statements and noted reconciliation with an A1 Sign Company invoice. MacManus also said a squirrel piece will be mailed to Illinois and will be reimbursed after mailing.
On project spending, MacManus reported that the Splash Pad utility-box images are too dark to be clearly visible and estimated about $2,000 to lighten those images; he also said a student-art utility box was installed roughly six inches too high, with a correction estimate of $501.75. The board voted to authorize up to $4,000 to address the utility-box issues. The motion passed unanimously with AYES recorded for Simpson, Forro, MacManus, Morgan, Murphy and Faustina and Samantha Spitzner absent.
The commission also voted to change its regular meeting time from 6:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., effective May 2026. The motion passed unanimously.
Traci Krueger, Director of Norcross Gallery Studios, requested modest support for a student art show prize basket; the commission approved allocating up to $100 from the office supplies budget for the award.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. The next Norcross Public Arts Commission meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at City Hall, Second Floor Conference Room.
