During the communications and petitions portion of the Feb. 17 meeting, resident Steve Pollitt urged the village board to review elected-official compensation and consider indexing salaries to inflation or scheduling periodic reviews.
—Currently, the mayor salary is $5,500,— Pollitt said, noting other compensation figures he traced back to 1998 and earlier and arguing that restoring 1998 purchasing power would make service more accessible. He added that any salary change must be adopted at least 180 days before an election and reminded the board of the Oct. 6 timeline for upcoming elections.
Mayor Paul Holford and trustees thanked Pollitt for raising the issue and suggested the topic might belong in strategic planning discussions; no motion or formal action was taken.
The board did note that some past elected officials have donated their stipends and that the form and timing of any change would be subject to statutory notice and election-timing rules.
