County updates, park camera plan and summer events highlighted at Carpentersville meeting

A Kane County representative and village staff provided updates at the Carpentersville Board of Trustees meeting on June 18 covering county programs, a plan to install cameras in Carpenter Park and the village’s lineup of summer and fall events.

Chris Kias, introduced during public comment, said the county board approved a comprehensive climate action plan intended as a voluntary blueprint for local initiatives. He noted the county’s farmland protection program has preserved about 7,000 acres and said bids for demolition of the Carpentersville Dam have been received, with work possibly beginning in September. Kias also listed cooling-center locations for residents during heat events and urged public engagement on Randall intersection planning.

Manager O'Sullivan thanked outgoing Finance Director Shane Johnson and announced Ben Mason will step in as finance director. O'Sullivan said the village has approved some equipment for phase one of a plan from the information-technology director to install cameras in Carpenter Park after a recent vehicle damaged park property; the project will be phased over multiple years and purchases will be coordinated between departments.

Sarah Miller presented a calendar of events: the Independence Day parade is scheduled June 29 at 10 a.m. with 27 businesses and organizations signed up and a new grandstand; Fiesta Palooza and a Vintage Fair with expanded food vendors and a separate alcohol area are in planning; Fall Fest is set for Sept. 20–21; and winter programming will include the Winterville event. Miller said staff will send route letters to residents and issue a press release.

Board members thanked staff for event planning and for public-safety responses noted in trustee reports.
