President Skillman opened the meeting and the Village of Carpentersville Board of Trustees confirmed two appointments and held two ceremonial swearing‑ins and a badge pinning.
At the start of the evening the board approved the appointment of Daniel Smith to the fire pension board (term ending 01/31/2028) after Trustee Garcia moved the nomination and a second; the appointment passed on a unanimous roll call. Later the board appointed Jeremiah Schmittendorf to the planning and zoning commission (term ending 08/31/2029) and administered the oath of office.
The board also held a badge‑pinning ceremony for Officer Nathaniel Webb. A police department representative introduced Webb and said the pinning “stands for trust, accountability, and it promises serve our community with integrity and professionalism,” noting Webb’s training credentials, an associate degree in criminal justice from Elgin Community College, Police Training Institute graduation and FEMA emergency management certifications. Family members participated in the ceremony.
Kevin Stankiewicz took the oath as Carpentersville’s new chief of police. Manager Stewart and others on the dais highlighted Stankiewicz’s more than 20 years with the village, noting his progression from community service officer in 2003 to roles in patrol and specialized units, a 2016 promotion to sergeant, service in investigative and support roles, a 2021 assignment as commander of support services and promotion to deputy chief in 2023. The manager also noted Stankiewicz’s professional training, including graduation from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command at the FBI National Academy and a master’s degree in public safety.
Trustees offered public congratulations after the ceremonies. President Skillman and Manager Stewart both expressed confidence in the appointees and the new chief; no dissent or further action on the appointments was recorded.
