Broken Bow council adopts ordinance adding two handicap parking spaces at courthouse

At a public hearing opened at 6:03 p.m., Custer County Supervisor Dwain Bryner told the council the courthouse west parking lot is being redesigned to accommodate a new voter drop box and upcoming front-stair replacement. "Having a handicap parking spot on each side of the west parking lot allows for flexibility for handicapped drivers with and without wheelchairs and addresses accessibility issues," Bryner said.
Councilmember Russ Smith moved to suspend the rule requiring three readings and for final passage; Councilmember Luke Wassom seconded. After a unanimous roll-call vote by Councilmembers Smith, Wassom and Paul Holland, Mayor Sonnichsen declared Ordinance No. 1279 adopted.
The ordinance was read by title before the vote. The council closed the public hearing at 6:07 p.m. and proceeded with the suspension of rules to allow immediate adoption.
The adoption responds to accessibility concerns tied to the courthouse stair replacement and the installation of a voter drop box. No effective date beyond standard publication requirements was specified in the meeting record. The council did not record any public opposition during the hearing.
