Carpentersville, East Dundee firefighters receive unit citation after March 31 rescue

The Village of Carpentersville on June 4 presented a unit citation to local and mutual‑aid firefighters for their response to a March 31 structure fire in the Cobblestone area that led to the rescue and treatment of a resident.

A fire‑department representative described the scene and praised the teamwork of Carpentersville and neighboring departments: "Upon arrival, firefighters met with a heavy amount of flame...with the work of the police department, it was identified ... that there was a person trapped inside of the building, and firefighters went to work to quickly put the fire out and initiate a search," the official said. East Dundee personnel assisted with resuscitation and transport.

The citation reads in part: "In recognition of your actions during a structure fire response on 03/31/2024, your actions and courage ... exemplify your dedication to the preservation of life and service to our community," the speaker said while presenting awards. Several Carpentersville firefighters named during the presentation included Battalion Chief Michael Peters, Lieutenant Christopher Bolliger and firefighters Nicholas Domani, Kevin Milani, Matthew Sher, Oliver Leon, Ryan Gillette, Matt Minsk, Kyle Kooplenck and Josh Cunningham. East Dundee personnel identified included Lieutenant Tyler McDonald, firefighter Lucas Meyer and firefighter Christina Diana.

The board and the department noted that some of the firefighters are part‑time personnel enrolled in paramedic training and that several will be formally recognized again at the department’s annual awards banquet. A resident who benefited from the response attended the meeting and was invited to join the firefighters for recognition.
