The committee chair opened the meeting and said the policy had been held from a prior session so legal language could be tightened. Dr. Barrett, who addressed the committee during discussion, said the attorneys revised the language to “make sure it matched and was detailed enough to explain who the policy applies to.”
A committee member asked whether all employees understand they are “on call” under the draft policy. Dr. Barrett replied that the policy is not intended to cover all staff who informally respond to needs outside scheduled hours. “In this case, through on call, employees are those who are specifically compensated and identified and mandated to report if we have a specific need,” Dr. Barrett said. She added that the district means those who are formally designated as on-call employees.
After that clarification, a committee member moved to send Policy 550 to the full board; another member seconded the motion and the committee approved it. The committee also approved minutes from the April 13 meeting earlier in the session and adjourned after reporting there were no outstanding policy-cleanup items.
The committee did not receive any public comment at the meeting. The next step is for Policy 550 to appear on the full board’s agenda for consideration.
