The Livingston County Planning Department on May 5 secured committee approvals to advance multiple land-use and recreational grant actions.
Planning Director Megan Crowe sought and received a no-cost time extension to complete the update of the county’s Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan through July 4, 2027. The committee also recorded formal support for two Farmland Protection Implementation Grant applications: Niedermaier Farms in the Town of Groveland and Everman Farm in the Towns of Sparta and West Sparta; both applications had municipal endorsements and were included in the county’s ranked list.
On recreational grants, the committee declared itself lead agency under SEQR for a 2026–2027 NYS Snowmobile Grant-In-Aid and Trail Approval application and adopted a Negative Declaration, finding no significant environmental impacts for the proposed maintenance and use of an expanded approximately 77.3-mile trail system. The board authorized submission of the trail plan and application and approved pass-through contracts with the Caledonia Trailblazers and Hill & Valley Riders to administer the NYS reimbursement funds.
Motions on these planning items carried without recorded opposition. Staff noted ongoing outreach for the farmland plan update, including public surveys and consultant work to craft recommendations, and indicated next steps for grant submission and contract execution.
The committee also received a written update on multiple planning programs, including the Land Bank, mobile home replacement program, housing outreach and vacant rental improvement applications.
