Historical Commission readies museum exhibit, reports award and volunteer hours

Mike Flynn, chairman of the Historical Commission, reviewed the commission’s work administering the Mundelein Heritage Museum and its programming. Flynn said the commission, established in 2018, will open a redesigned back-room exhibit focused on Mundelein in the 1920s on March 21 and that the museum has increased outreach through pop-up exhibits and school programs.
Flynn reported the commission and its docents recorded roughly 1,238 volunteer hours for the year and that the commission estimates serving about 1,131 people through museum open days and off-site events. He told the board that on March 15, 2025, the commission received recognition from the Illinois State Historical Society in its 'Best of Illinois History' program (reported in the meeting packet).
Flynn also noted staffing changes: his term ends April 30 and another member recently resigned, leaving vacancies the commission intends to promote.
