Old No. 1 committee reports nearly 1,000 volunteer hours and 29 events planned for 2026

Bob Stallman, chairman of the Old No. 1 Fire Truck Preservation Committee, reviewed the committee’s 2025 activities and said the group held 10 committee meetings, ran three maintenance and repair events, and participated in roughly 32 events tied to the truck’s 100th anniversary.
Stallman said the centennial year increased regional visibility — the truck appeared at library events, park-and-park car shows, university events, the Memorial Day parade, local fairs and car shows across Lake County. “We have worked a total of 984 hours in 2025 or an average of 76 volunteer hours per each of the 13 members,” Stallman said.
The committee plans 29 events in 2026, including an annual golf outing, participation at the Mundelein bike race and a second antique fire truck show at Tight Head; Stallman invited board members and the public to attend and “ring the bell.”
