Minooka CCSD 201 details summer programs and a YMCA partnership for before/after care

District staff told the board that summer programming will again include course recovery, Camp Manuka (one week math and one week reading for current K–4 students), a one-week enrichment offering for grades 5–8 and a three-week online summer bridge for incoming K–8 students. Registration opened for most programs; most sessions run in June with bridge in July.
"Our enrichment program is a one-week program" and "registration open today," a presenter said while outlining course descriptions and schedules. Staff described camp activities including art, STEAM, music and sports and said many sessions are offered at no cost to families; the district also sends home materials so students can continue learning at home.
The board also heard details about a new partnership with the YMCA to provide before- and after-school care and a planned pilot for a drop-in program. District staff said discussions with YMCA staff produced a willingness to pilot the drop-in option and to match current rates for families. "We finalized our discussion regarding being the first school district to pilot a drop-in program," a presenter said.
Board members raised concerns about potential fee differences for non-Shorewood residents and whether families would face new costs. Staff said YMCA offers scholarships and that rate structures depend on membership and residency; staff said they will share contact information and detailed, family-specific comparisons so families can assess individual impacts. The presenter also cited local program data: the YMCA Shorewood location had about 293 students enrolled with roughly 201 receiving some form of financial assistance.
In administrative reports, staff highlighted recent school health clinic results: 88 dental screenings, 133 cleanings/scaling/fluoride treatments and 378 individual sealants provided through free clinics.
Next steps: staff will publish registration details and family-facing FAQs, share YMCA contact information for families with pricing questions, and continue coordination to smooth the transition for current providers and families. Board members encouraged outreach and noted the potential benefit of expanded teen programming and local job opportunities.
