Bolingbrook Arts Council approves agenda, readies summer events and public-art bench

At its May 5 meeting the Bolingbrook Arts Council approved its agenda and previous minutes, confirmed a May 8 delivery and installation plan for a public-art bench and archway at Knights of Columbus Park, assigned leads for summer Arts on the Row events and set performing-arts intern dates for June–August.
The Bolingbrook Arts Council met on May 5, 2026, at 7:13 p.m. in the Village Boardroom and approved its meeting agenda and the April 21 minutes by voice vote. Chair Mithra Zaucha led the session and staff recorded a quorum.
The council received several program updates and set plans for summer activities. Lea Moore-Beulah, co-chair of the Visual Arts Committee, said she is adding banners for the upcoming "BLOOM" exhibit and confirmed that artists have been notified about the next installation. Mithra Zaucha updated the council that the first swinging (Noble Wins) bench and accompanying archway will be delivered May 8 for installation at Knights of Columbus Park; the group discussed whether the archway should be painted before or after installation and agreed the forthcoming Call for Artists will include specifications and a theme so artists can submit concepts and materials.
Commissioners assigned event leads for Arts on the Row: Richard Humphreys will lead the June 11 "Boy Band Night," the July 9 slot remained open and the Aug. 13 "Jolly Ringwalds 80s" event will be led by Kathleen Lamb. The council noted it still needs a lead for the July event. Organizers also discussed the Bolingbrook Arts Expo at the Village Picnic scheduled for June 28 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and planned how to manage the call for artists and timing for that event.
On performing arts, Jesse Gaffney, co-chair, confirmed the final Blues Lab Jam event for the season is May 20 and announced the performing-arts intern program will run Wednesdays from June 24 through Aug. 12, 2026, with application materials due May 24. Staff reported website updates and a social-media plan to support recruitment and event publicity, including updated QR codes and a schedule of posts.
The Community Events co-chairs reported on other summer programming. Linda Lawrence and Julie Guida noted the Village Picnic lineup is being finalized and asked staff to confirm participating high-school bands. The council also heard a request from organizers of ShredFest for council support; the event is scheduled for July 18 at Indian Boundary Skatepark and will feature multiple bands.
Budget and subcommittee staffing for 2025–2026 were reviewed: Visual Arts ($11,550), Adaptive Arts ($8,000), Performing Arts ($6,700), Community Events ($3,500) and Digital Design & Operations ($750). The council recorded these allocations alongside corresponding program lists and member assignments.
Procedural motions recorded during the meeting included approval of the May 5 agenda and approval of the April 21 minutes (motion to approve minutes made by Bobbie Speer and seconded by Richard Humphreys). A motion to adjourn, made by Ocie Koonce and seconded by Julie Guida, passed and the meeting ended at 7:54 p.m. The next Arts Council meeting is scheduled for May 20, 2026.
