Committee member S2 said the FSBPT webinar made them wonder what role the Connecticut Department of Public Health should play in sharing AI resources and educating physical therapists.
"It was making me wonder, what is the role of the DPH? It seems like some of the others take a little bit more of an active role in putting out information, et cetera," S2 said, and asked whether Connecticut DPH was currently doing anything to educate physical therapists about AI tools and their consequences.
An agency official (S3) said they had no knowledge of a current DPH effort but offered to seek out individuals who might have information and to arrange a presentation. "We once, many years ago, used to have an individual from DPH who would actually make a presentation at your quarterly meeting giving a status report ... but that individual has since left," S3 said, adding they could look for where the state keeps statistics on complaints and investigations.
Committee member S4 noted that North Carolina's newsletter included counts of complaints and investigations and said it would be "helpful" to see similar reporting if available.
Later in the meeting Chair Dr. Lori Devaney introduced Elizabeth Bannon as the new Deputy Legal Director of the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Bannon said she joined DPH a little over a month ago, came from the Attorney General's office where she represented DPH boards including the Medical Examining Board and Nursing Boards, and offered to assist the board going forward.
No formal action or timeline for DPH to produce AI guidance was set; members asked staff to explore resources and possible presentations to inform the board.
