Mayor seeks financing to upgrade wastewater treatment plant

He said engineering studies and plans have been completed and asked council whether staff should pursue financing to cover the remaining cost. Councilmember (S6) moved “to pursue the financing discussion,” and a second was recorded. The council approved the motion by voice vote.
Supporters noted the reed-bed option would reduce long-term operating complexity and help the town comply with incoming regulations. Public works staff (S3) described the reed-bed as “our best decision,” citing longevity and lower operational demands compared with other options.
Councilmembers discussed next steps: the mayor said he would contact local banks to “line up the other 400,000” and report back. No specific loan terms were authorized at the meeting; the motion authorized staff to pursue financing discussions only.
The council is expected to return with financing options and any recommended loan terms at a future meeting.
