Lee County Board recognizes Smiths Station High School Band for national Advocacy in Action award

Dr. Mike Howard, superintendent, and the board highlighted that the program received a 2026 Advocacy in Action Award from Music for All for its “Rock On: Expanding Access to Pop/Rock Music Programs” initiative. The minutes note that Smiths Station High School was one of 26 programs nationwide to receive the award and the only recipient from the Southeastern United States.
The recognition notes that the initiative expands participation by reaching students beyond traditional band settings through outreach, workshops and collaboration. The award will be featured in the Advocacy in Action Archive as a model for music educators nationwide.
