The Buckner Board of Aldermen voted to approve a city contribution toward the park department's insurance premium, with board discussion centering on an amount in the ballpark of $12,000.
The chair said the figure worked out to about $12,000 and suggested the city could collect it on a monthly basis if necessary: "Basically $12,000. A thousand dollars a month or $12,000 a month however you want to collect it," the chair said. Board members discussed the park board's absence and noted they had not received a detailed explanation of how the cost would impact the park's operations. One alderman suggested a monthly payment schedule to ease cash-flow concerns.
A motion to approve the city's share was moved and seconded and the board approved the payment by voice vote.
What happens next: the city's finance office will administratively process the payment; any further questions about park budgeting should be addressed with the park board when they next appear before aldermen.
